Squash was finally recognized in the NY Times, not in the sports section, but rather in the Style section. This article focused on the “getting into college” aspect of squash. Basically saying that one can get into an Ivy League if they’re good enough, and that Squash is “hot right now”. They mentioned the club I used to play at, “Brooklyn Heights (home of the Heights Casino, a private athletic club and renowned squash factory)” which is pretty accurate and the article is pretty true. I and many of my friends would train at 6am, again after school and compete in tournaments. In my junior year of high school I realized I had to pick between my love of art and playing squash, guess which one decided to go with? As many of my friends went off to the Ivy Leagues, I went of to RISD and I don’t regret it at all.
